Do I need to make a booking or reservation?
There’s no need to making a booking or reservation. Just make sure you’ve got everything you need (see “What do I need to bring with me?”) and we’ll see you at the Tripod! (see “When & where does the tour start?”)
When and where does the tour start?
FRI, SAT & MON at 10AM sharp at the large Tripod Scupture at 16 Cambridge Terrace at the intersection with Courtney Place.
How long is the tour?
Approximately 2 hours including multiple rest stops and a coffe stop half way through. The walking tour is within the centre city which is mostly flat (unlike much of the rest of Wellington). This means that the walking tour is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. As kiwi’s say you will be “sweet as” or “all good”which means that you’ll be just fine.
Please see the About page for a list of tour highlights
What do I need to bring with me?
- Comfortable walking shoes
- An extra clothing layer just in case of cold or rain
- Cash for coffee & koha
- A sense of adventure!
Why is the tour free & what is a “koha”?
“Koha” is a Maori word for “gift” or “donation”. This walking tour is a social enterprise, not a business so unlike a business that usually has set upfront costs we instead want to offer you our local insider tips & stories free of charge & at the end of the tour you have the option to offer a koha that you feel is fair for the quality of the experiance that you received.
Initially this koha will go towards covering the set up costs of our walking tour but eventually we aim to set up a training process for young people in Wellington in collaboration with the Wellington Boys’ & Girls’ Institute (BGI) where Dave also works as a Youth Worker. We think this will provide a great oppertunity for emerging young leaders in our community to gain confidence, build their communication skills and gain valuable work experiance whilst meeting interesting visitors from all over the world!
Where does the tour end?
The tour will finish outside the National War Memorial on Buckle St
